Meeting History

May 12, 2020 12:00 PM Video Council Meeting

Councillor K. Balsom noted that following the April 14, 2020, when her Notice of Motion was served regarding the establishment of a Multi-Sector Social Recovery Task Force, she worked with Administration and realized that the task force being proposed fell within the purview of the Social Sustainability Plan Committee; therefore, is proposing the following motion for consideration:

“THAT the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo administration work with the Social Sustainability Plan Committee to advise on the short and long-term well-being of all residents in our region to identify priorities, help to guide decision making, resource allocation, alignment and collaborative community action as it relates to both the COVID-19 response and recovery and the 2020 flood event.”

Chantal Beaver and Anna Seinen, Social Sustainability Plan Committee (Committee) members, spoke in support of the revised motion, noting that the Committee would refocus it’s work temporarily to align with the proposed motion.

Point of Order

Councillor. P. Meagher rose a question on process noting that the proposed motion was significantly different from the Notice of Motion that was served on April 14, 2020. Discussions then occurred on a potential deferment to allow public notice and comment.

THAT the Social Sustainability Plan Committee - Establishment of a Multi-Sector Social Recovery Task Force be deferred to the May 27, 2020 Council Meeting.
